Fortune's latest cover story is on LinkedIn. Unfortunately most of the article is geared toward using LinkedIn as a tool to find a job (and how many employers are using LinkedIn for recruiting). (Actually, there are several articles in the April 12, 2010 issue of Fortune, which was recently and nicely redesigned, on getting a job.)
I am not looking for a job and am on LinkedIn at least 10 times per day. Here are a few of the ways that I am using LinkedIn:
- If we are trying to do business with a company, I am on LinkedIn to see who, out of my connections, is connected to someone at that company.
- When interviewing candidates, I am checking out their LinkedIn profile to search for common connections and the number of connections (especially salespeople).
- I periodically ask questions (and answer others) on the discussion boards in some of the groups I belong to.
Just as I am using LinkedIn to check people out, I am sure they are doing it for me and the New York Enterprise Report. So make sure your profile is up to-date, you have recommendations (I am going to start working on this), and that your company profile (link ) is appropriate.
How are you using LinkedIn?
