This morning I followed a Twitter link (courtesy of @JonathanFields) to a blog entry by Mark McGuinness called "What Daily Meditation Can Do for Your Creativity." As a twice weekly yoga practitioner and a person with a somewhat creative job (although, who's job doesn't require creativity?), I was immediately drawn to the blog. That was until I read that Mark suggested you set aside 20 minutes at the beginning of each day to clear your mind and meditate. Who has 20 minutes to do, basically, nothing?
Right before I clicked out of the blog to get started on the mounting tasks of the day, I realized that the situation is pretty sad. The benefits of meditation could be very valuable. It's a practice in patience and focus - two virtues many people (especially me) often fall short on. I have edited articles for NY Report in which experts explain how to be more productive and stop wasting time. By implementing some time saving and planning strategies, I would probably be able to carve out a few minutes each day that could potentially improve my over all work product.
Meditation may be asking a little too much of hyperactive brains, but the theory is valuable. I'd like to hear about what you do to stay focused during your most hectic days.
