A recent survey by Symantec Corp., a security, storage, and systems management solutions company, revealed due to the use of social media and mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, as well as an increase in employees working remotely, many businesses are more vulnerable to risks surrounding online internal and external file sharing, such as security threats and data loss.

More than 40 percent of the respondents said the largest concerns they have are the sharing of confidential information using unapproved solutions, as well as malware. Despite these risks, 25 percent of the survey respondents have not implemented internal policies restricting how employees can access and share files, and 10 percent of the survey respondents revealed that they were somewhat or completely unfamiliar with how their employees are sharing files externally and internally.
