A successful supplier diversity program can not only benefit other small businesses in your local community and around the country, but it can positively affect your own business, as well. Recently, Claire Scanlon, head of supplier development for BNY Mellon, was named one of the Top 25 Women of Power Impacting Diversity by DiversityPlus magazine. The award recognized women for their strong leadership and successful commitment to supplier diversity.

Scanlon was recognized for leading BNY Mellon in exceeding its goals in regards to supplier diversity. In 2011, BNY Mellon exceeded its supplier diversity goal by seven percent, with 27 percent of all competitively bid contracts awarded to diverse suppliers.

Besides overseeing the supplier diversity program, Scanlon hosts capacity building sessions and workshops, which helps diverse suppliers make valuable connections that can lead to winning larger assignments.
