Looking to hire a veteran? New York City is making it a little bit easier with the recent opening of a new Workforce1 Veterans Center near Madison Square Park. The center was opened by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Speaker Christine C. Quinn, and Small Business Services Commissioner Robert W. Walsh.

The new center aims to work with employers looking to hire veterans, and will offer veterans career services and training opportunities. Services will include helping veterans utilize their specialized abilities learned during military service and translating them into skills for job opportunities. The centers will also make connections with employers who are committed to hiring veterans.

There are currently more than 8,600 unemployed veterans in New York City. Last year, Workforce1 helped match more than 800 veterans to jobs, and this year the number is expected to reach 1,250.
