Gardening, watercolors, spoiling the grandkids—what were once seen as the perks of retirement may have to wait. NY Report’s survey found that less than half the respondents were at least somewhat confident that they can retire comfortably.

However, many others said they had no plans to retire at all. “Although I’m 80 years old, I am still having fun and do not plan on retiring unless it becomes absolutely necessary,” wrote one reader. Another said, “I went through a few financial downturns, from which I will not recover unless I hit the lottery. Besides, I still love what I do, and will try to ‘die with my boots on.’” For these entrepreneurs, the old adage is true: if you love your work, you won’t ever work a day in your life.
