Michael Lopez -Partner, Amper, Politziner & Mattia, LLP
With two decades of experience working for technology companies,
Michael Lopez has recently begun working with numerous startups and mid-stage technology firms, often helping them realize a successful exit through sale in a strategic transaction.
Experience and savvy enable Lopez to help clients prevail, even in very difficult situations. Recently, longtime clients who were partners in a technology company decided to go their separate ways. The transaction promised to be emotionally difficult and financially complicated. Where some accountants might have begged off, citing a conflict of interest, Lopez was determined to see both partners succeed.
First, and perhaps most difficult, he conceptually mapped out how the split could work. He then referred them to an attorney who got the deal done simply and effectively; helped them get financing for their new, separate ventures; worked out the tax implications; and personally handled splitting the company’s books into two sets. Result: a win-win.
Lopez demonstrates his exceptional commitment to the New York City technology community in his role as a founding board member of the New York Technology Council, a group whose mission is to bring the technology business community together with state and local governments and academia.
