For business owners in New York State, January 2012 marks the first time they must legally provide notice to their employees of rates of pay, pay day, intent to claim allowances, and basis of wage payment. The notice must be provided at the time of hiring, as well as every year, on or before February 1st, and within one week of any changes.

This notice is part of the Wage Theft Prevention Act, which went into effect in April 2011, and is intended to be a clarification of NY State’s Labor Law.
