I've just been to YAIs Business Advisory Council meeting and one of the speakers was Stew Leonard Jr. Stew mentioned that the success behind his company's brand is great customer service, which comes from having great people and training them.
Stew Leonard's has consistently (for over 10 years) been on the Fortune Best Places to Work, so you would think they would have their processes and procedures down. But good enough is not good enough for them.
Stew told us they just got together with Danny Meyer's Shake Shack team to compare and exchange ideas. Danny Meyer has said that employees come first and then they will take care of your customers.
I have two takeaways from this:
- Sitting down with non-competing companies with similar values is a fantastic way to get new ideas.
- Even if you are great at what you do, never stop improving.
