A recent global survey conducted by Accenture management consulting, technology services, and outsourcing company found that 72 percent of small business decision makers thought the sustainability initiatives their companies implemented are exceeding expectations.

Only 4 percent of the 247 businesses polled in the United States, the United Kingdom, and China reported their efforts failed. Nearly all of those surveyed claimed they had sustainability practices in place, and 63 percent consider sustainability an integral part of their businesses. The methods of practicing sustainability range from focusing on reducing electricity consumption to developing sustainability-based products and services. As a result of their efforts, 49 percent of business leaders cited reputation and trust with clients and customers as benefits of sustainability efforts, while 42 percent noted their actions have led to lower costs.
