While 2008 and 2009 were the most challenging years for business in recent memory, small business owners across the country have high hopes for sales in 2010. According to a recent survey conducted by Administaff, more than half of small business owners expect an increase in sales through year-end. Business owners also reported their sales people earned 8.8 percent more in commissions in 2010 than they did in 2009 due to increased sales volume.
Many business owners said they were unsure how to set sales goals for the year because of the uncertainty surrounding business growth amidst the recovering economy. However, of the business owners who did set sales goals, they said those goals are conservative and that they intend not only to meet, but also surpass them. According to Administaff’s report, in comparison to what they projected at the start of 2010, 72 percent reported their business was performing on plan, or better than expected for 2010.”
